42nd street42nd Street, a musical adaptation of the best-selling novel by Bradford Ropes, will be performed in downtown Fort Smith at 7:30 p.m. March 1 as part of the University of Arkansas Fort Smiths Season of Entertainment 36.

The performance will be held at the ArcBest Corp. Performing Arts Center in the Fort Smith Convention Center, located at 55 S. 7th Street. Tickets are $45 or $42, depending on seating tier.

With lyrics by Al Dubin and music by Harry Warren, the acclaimed musical follows a directors efforts to launch a successful musical showcase during the poverty-stricken times of the Great Depression.

Featuring a popular score with songs such as Were in the Money and Lullaby of Broadway, the show earned two Tony Awards out of eight nominations, including Best Musical.

The show is a quintessential backstage musical comedy, according to Stacey Jones, associate vice chancellor of campus and community events.

Its what I would call an old school song and dance, Jones said. Its got one of the best openings Ive ever seen on Broadway. The curtain rises, and its excitement all the way through. Itll be a great family show for everybody to see.

The show is part of Season of Entertainment 36, a yearlong lineup of entertainment sponsored by the 酴圖弝け featuring a variety of plays, musicals and symphonic performances.
