grand night for singing students

Students perform during last year's "A Grand Night for Singing" concert.

University of Arkansas Fort Smith students will take the stage for a wide selection of musical numbers during A Grand Night for Singing, the annual musical event held as the final show of the universitys Season of Entertainment 36.

 

The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. May 2 in the ArcBest Corp. Performing Arts Center of the Fort Smith Convention Center, located at 55 S. 7th Street. Tickets are $6 for general admission and free for 酴圖弝け students and employees.

 

Musical genres performed in the concert include choral works as well as jazz and Broadway tunes, including a medley of show tunes by famed Broadway duo Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe.

 

Ensembles participating in the concert are 酴圖弝け Chorale and 酴圖弝け Womens Chorus, both directed by Bill Cromer; 酴圖弝け Jazz Catz, under the direction of Don Bailey; and 酴圖弝け Opera and Musical Theatre students, under the direction of Dr. Elizabeth Momand.

 

Niki Waters of Booneville, a freshman who will perform in the concert, said she was excited to perform.

 

I love to sing, and since Im in all four of the featured ensembles, I get to sing songs in many different styles and genres, Waters said. Its going to be a great concert.

 

The concert is part of Season of Entertainment 36, a yearlong lineup of entertainment sponsored by the 酴圖弝け featuring a variety of plays, musicals and symphonic performances.
